The Del Boca Vista Pickleball League follows a set of structured rules designed to ensure fair play, competitiveness, and enjoyment for all participants. These rules are based on the official guidelines provided by USA Pickleball, with specific adaptations for our league's format.
Rules and Regulations
General Gameplay Rules
Court and Equipment: All matches are played on standard pickleball courts using approved USA Pickleball paddles and balls.
Scoring: Rally scoring to 21 points, win by 2, or win by 1, first to 25 points. Teams will freeze on 20.
Serve and Return: The server must call the score before serving.
Coaching: Just like in Major League Pickleball, coaching between points is allowed. Cheering is encouraged! However, the crowd can not state if a ball is in or out.
Match Play
Team Composition: Each team consists of four players - 2 men and 2 women, with 1 man and 1 woman listed as subs.
Match Format: Each match features women’s doubles, men’s doubles, and four mixed doubles games.
DreamBreaker™ Tiebreaker: If teams are tied after all scheduled games, a DreamBreaker™ round is played. This involves rotational skinny singles. The Home team sets their lineup first, and the Away team responds. Players play four points at a time. Once the fourth point is played, the next players play another four points and continue to do so until 21 points are reached (win by 1). There is no freeze in the Dreambraker series; a team can win without serving.
Scheduling and Rescheduling
Home Team Responsibility: The Home Team must offer two date and time options for the match.
Away Team Response: If the Away Team can field a full team with 1, or 2 subs, they must accept one of the dates. If 3 or more players are unavailable, the Away Team must offer two alternative dates.
Rescheduling: If a mutual agreement on the dates cannot be reached within the proposed week, the match must be rescheduled to the following week.
Player Eligibility and Substitutions
DUPR: Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR) is
Eligibility: Players must be 19 or older and registered with the league. Players may only represent one team per season.
Substitutions: Teams are allowed up to 2 substitutes per match. Substitutes must be of similar skill levels to maintain fair competition.
Code of Conduct
Sportsmanship: All players are expected to conduct themselves with respect and courtesy towards opponents, teammates, and officials.
Disputes: Any disputes regarding calls or rules should be resolved amicably between captains. If necessary, disputes may be escalated to the league commissioner.
Penalties: Unsportsmanlike behavior, cheating, or other violations may result in penalties, including match forfeiture or suspension from the league.
Weather and Court Conditions
Weather Cancellations: Matches may be canceled or postponed due to inclement weather. The Home Team captain is responsible for notifying the Away Team and the league commissioner.
Rescheduled Matches: If a match is canceled due to weather, it must be rescheduled within the next two weeks.
Playoffs and Championships
Playoff Qualification: The top teams from each division qualify for the playoffs based on their regular-season performance. The number of top teams that qualify will for playoffs is determined by the number of teams in each league.
Championship Format: Playoff matches follow the same format as regular-season matches, culminating in a Championship match to determine the league winner.
Equipment and Uniforms
Standard Equipment: Players are responsible for providing their own paddles and appropriate footwear. Balls will be provided by the league.
Uniforms: Teams are encouraged to wear coordinated uniforms or colors to enhance team spirit.
Rule Updates
Quarter Review: The Rules and Regulations are reviewed quarterly and may be updated based on feedback from players and captains.
Player Input: Players are encouraged to provide input on rule changes during the off-season. Any changes will be communicated before the start of the new season.
