League Structure

The Del Boca Vista Pickleball League offers competitive and enjoyable play for all skill levels, following a dynamic format inspired by Major League Pickleball (MLP). Our league emphasizes team spirit, strategic gameplay, and the unique excitement of pickleball, all wrapped in a vibrant, retro Miami atmosphere.

🏗️ League Structure

Del Boca Vista Pickleball is a team-based league inspired by the format of Major League Pickleball — with a retro Miami twist. Here’s how it all works:

👥 Team Composition

  • Each team may have up to 6 players: 3 men and 3 women

  • 4 players (2 men + 2 women) play each match

  • Players can rotate week to week, but once a match starts, the 4 players are locked in and must finish the match

🎯 Divisions

We offer four skill-based divisions based on your team’s DUPR at time of registration

Max Team DUPR

DUPR 16

DUPR 14

Max Indiv. DUPR

🔢 Team DUPR is calculated by adding the top 4 players' current ratings. There are no minimums — just don’t go over the division max.

A league will be viable if four or more teams sign up, with a maximum of eight per division.

📍 Where Are Matches Played?

We get this question a lot — and the answer is: all over South Charlotte!
Matches aren’t locked to one venue. Instead, the home team sets the location, giving you flexibility to play at:

  • Weddington Country Club

  • Freedom Park

  • Fort Mill YMCA The Complex

  • Park Road Park

  • Pickleball Charlotte

  • Rally

  • Private or neighborhood courts

  • …or anywhere both teams agree on!

Just make sure you coordinate with your opponent and pick a court that works for both teams. That’s part of the fun — DBV plays wherever the vibes are right. 🦩

🗓️ Season & Match Details

Season Timeline:
Each season runs 6–8 weeks, followed by playoffs for the top teams. Specific dates are shared at the start of the season.

Weekly Matches:
Teams play 1 match per week. Depending on the number of teams, you may have:

  • A bye week

  • A doubleheader

  • Or you may face a team more than once—or not at all

Match Format:
Each match includes 1 Men’s Doubles, 1 Women’s Doubles, and 4 Mixed Doubles games — all using rally scoring to 21 (win by 2).
If a match is tied 3–3, we go to a DreamBreaker tiebreaker (skinny singles or doubles depending on the division).

Start Times:
Your match start time may vary each week based on court availability, but we aim for consistency. Match times are posted in advance.

Weather Delays:
If weather interferes, we ask teams to reschedule their match within one week. We may build in buffer weeks for flexibility. If a match begins but is interrupted, games that reached at least 11 points may count.

📝 How Teams Are Placed

Captains select their preferred division during registration

  • The DBV team will verify DUPR ratings for eligibility

  • Teams will be moved to the appropriate division if their top 4 players exceed a division cap

🤝 Free Agents

Don’t have a team? No problem.
Sign up as a Free Agent, and we’ll place you on a team based on your DUPR rating and availability.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Substitutes Policy

Teams may register substitute players at the start of the season, and those subs will be eligible to fill in for any match.

If a team needs a sub who is not registered, they may bring in an alternate player under the following conditions:

  • The sub’s DUPR rating must be equal to or lower than the second-highest-rated player on the roster

  • The sub must not cause the team to exceed the division’s Max Team DUPR cap

  • Team captains must notify the opponent at least 24 hours before the match with the sub’s name and DUPR ID

All substitute players must be approved before participating. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in a match forfeiture.

📆 Season Timeline

  • Each season runs for 6–8 weeks

  • Teams play weekly matches

  • Top four teams advance to playoffs

  • Playoffs feature medals, referees, and the pink DreamBreaker ball

  • The season ends with championship matches and your team’s name on the fence (literally)

🧑‍⚖️ Code of Conduct:

All players are expected to uphold good sportsmanship, respect for opponents, and adherence to league rules. Any violations may result in penalties or removal from the league.
