League Structure

The Del Boca Vista Pickleball League offers competitive and enjoyable play for all skill levels, following a dynamic format inspired by Major League Pickleball (MLP). Our league emphasizes team spirit, strategic gameplay, and the unique excitement of pickleball, all wrapped in a vibrant, retro Miami atmosphere.

Divisions:

The league consists of two divisions to accommodate different levels of competitive play:

  • Intermediate Division: This division is designed for players developing their strategic play in a structured team setting.

    • DreamBreaker Format: Mixed doubles, with the home team setting the lineup first and pairs playing four points at a time before rotating.

  • Advanced Division: Players in this division showcase high-level skills, including speedups, lobs, Ernies, and backhanded dinks.

    • DreamBreaker Format: Singles rotation.

Team Formation & Selection:

  • Teams consist of 4 players (2 men, 2 women).

  • The Selection Committee, made up of 2 men and 2 women, will review sign-ups and create as many evenly balanced teams as possible.

Match Format:

Each match consists of the following games:

✅ Women’s Doubles
✅ Men’s Doubles
✅ Four Mixed Doubles games

Scoring System:

  • Rally scoring to 21 points, win by 2.

  • At 25 points, win by 1.

  • Freezing Rule: Once a team reaches 20 points, they freeze and must win on their serve. They can still earn points on the return but cannot win outright until scoring on their serve.

Season Structure:

The league operates in a seasonal format, with each season spanning approximately 6-8 weeks:

  • Regular Season: Teams compete in a round-robin format within their division.

  • Playoffs: The top teams from each division advance to the playoffs, culminating in a Championship match to determine the season's victor.

  • Promotion/Relegation: Teams that perform exceptionally well may be promoted to a higher division, while lower-performing teams may face relegation to a lower division for the next season.

    Season 2: Regular Season: April 6 – May 10; Playoffs: May 11 – May 25
    Season 3: Regular Season: July 6 – August 16; Playoffs: August 17 – August 30

Scheduling:

Matches are scheduled weekly, with home and away teams responsible for coordinating game times. If a match cannot be played during the originally proposed dates, it must be rescheduled to the following week.

Commitment Expectations:

Players are expected to play at least 5 out of 6 matches per season. We understand that conflicts arise, but consistent participation is key to keeping the league competitive and fair for all teams.

Player Eligibility:

To ensure fair play and competitiveness:

  • Regular Season Substitutes: There is a substitution pool that specific players can sub for specific players. If you need a sub, please alert the commissioner 24 hours in advance, to allow time to find a sub. Otherwise, the match can be rescheduled or forfeited.

  • Substitutes during Playoffs: Due to the impact, no subs are allowed during the playoffs, except if both captains agree, in which case a sub can play.

Code of Conduct:

All players are expected to uphold good sportsmanship, respect for opponents, and adherence to league rules. Any violations may result in penalties or removal from the league.
